K6 Open at Stone Sailing Club 7/8th May.

Stone SC held their first K6 open over the weekend of the 7th and 8th May. The club were rewarded with an excellent turnout of 16 boats.

Saturday was warm but the forecast southerly never materialised and gave way to a wind battling between the sea breeze and the gradient.

After a short delay the first race got away in a very light and shifty breeze, 4 more races followed – 2 of which gave some exiting sailing as the stronger gradient wind took charge, however the last ended in a dying wind as the day ended.

With the shifty conditions places changed regularly in all the races and a different winner emerged from each one. Andrew Younge/ Neil Davidson and Simon Fulford / Nick Jones both in their new boats each won a race with Neil Fulcher / Lawrence Crispen, Ian Robson / Sandy Johnson and David Hitchcock / Ian Nicholson each taking the gun in the other 3. However it was the team of Dave, Laura & Tom Hall who had the most consistent day ending up as overnight leader.

Sundays forecast came true and the fleet were treated to a 22- 25 knot breeze across the River Blackwater providing spectacular close racing. Neil and Laurence dominated the day showing their experience and local knowledge to take all 4 races. Dave & Ian were giving them a run for their money but after an unlucky gear failure had to miss the last races. The battle for second place was now between team Hall and Simon & Nick. After much place changing and some tremendous racing the teams ended up on equal points with Simon & Nick taking 2nd on count back.

The K6 class thanks Stone SC for a great weekend with a special thanks to Neil for organising and to Wendy – the PRO for getting 4 races in on Saturday and turning the 4 races on Sunday around so efficiently.
